DESCRIPTION:About this course:\nThis three hour workshop session is suitable for anyone with an interest in finding out more about Lime Mortar. The aim of the course is to inform your knowledge and understanding of lime mortar\, and the difference between using lime and cement when building or repairing brick buildings. \nThe session will cover the Lime Cycle\, choosing aggregates\, the preparation and aftercare of lime mortar\, different mixes\, pointing techniques and finishes. There will be a consideration of common problems and you will be able to ask your own questions and watch practical demonstrations. \n9.45am: Registration \n10am-1pm: Session \nThere will be a coffee break \n  \nAbout the tutor\nCharles Reilly is a highly experienced craftsman with a passion for repairing heritage brick buildings. As the managing director of Georgian Brickwork Charles leads a small team of specialist bricklayers in Kent. Georgian Brickwork focuses on using traditional methods and materials to repair and restore listed and period properties. Charles started developing his training programme in 2016 to ensure that his knowledge and skills is passed on to the next generation of bricklayers. More recently he has begun to offer a wider programme of courses to others with an interest in heritage brickwork. \n  \nWho is this course for?\nThis course is for anyone who is interested in learning about lime mortar. No prior knowledge or trowel skills needed \nNB: If you are a Bricklayer and you want to find out more about using lime mortar rather than cement please book a place on Understanding & Using Lime Mortar GBB1 \nHow will I be taught?\nThe course is informal\, and learning takes place through discussion\, observation\, locality tours\, and practical demonstrations. The focus will be on sharing knowledge and improving understanding. \nCourses for other professionals\, homeowners and those with an interest in the conservation of heritage brickwork take place in larger groups usually between 5-10 depending on the topic. The focus of these courses is on informing and awareness raising.
