About this course:

This four-day workshop is suitable for experienced bricklayers with an interest in finding out more about the traditional method of creating a gauged arch.  Topics include the geometry of an arch, drawing and creating an arch template, techniques for cutting bricks, and different mortar mixes.  There will be practical opportunities to practice and develop your own skill at drawing an arch, cutting the bricks, and building an arch.

Registration: 8.45am

Session 1: 9am – 12.30pm

Lunch: 12.30pm – 1.30pm

Session 2: 1.30pm – 4.00pm

About the tutor

Charles Reilly is a highly experienced craftsman with a passion for repairing heritage brick buildings. As the managing director of Georgian Brickwork, Charles leads a small team of specialist bricklayers in Kent using traditional methods and materials to repair and restore listed and period properties. Charles started developing the Georgian Brickwork training programme in 2016 to ensure that the knowledge and skills he has are passed on to the next generation of bricklayers.
