About this course

This three hour information session is suitable for anyone with an interest in the traditional craft of tuck pointing.  The session will focus on tuck pointing in historic buildings and will include a walk to examine examples at The Historic Dockyard, Chatham as well as a demonstration of the process.

About the tutor

Charles Reilly is a highly experienced craftsman with a passion for repairing heritage brick buildings. As the managing director of Georgian Brickwork Charles leads a small team of specialist bricklayers in Kent. Georgian Brickwork focuses on using traditional methods and materials to repair and restore listed and period properties. Charles started developing his training programme in 2016 to ensure that his knowledge and skills are passed on to the next generation of bricklayers. More recently he has begun to offer a wider programme of courses to anyone with an interest in heritage brickwork.

Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone with an interest in heritage brickwork and the specialist craft of Tuck pointing, no prior experience or trowel skills needed

How will I be taught?

Courses for heritage professionals, homeowners and those with an interest in the conservation of heritage brickwork take place in groups of between 5/10 people depending on the topic. The focus of these sessions is on informing and awareness raising. Many sessions also include a demonstration of a practical skill with opportunities to ask questions and discuss problems.

What do I need to bring with me?

We provide:

  • All tools and training materials
  • Tea & Coffee
  • H&S equipment such as safety goggles and gloves -but you may bring your own if you prefer.

You need to:

  • Wear practical comfortable clothes
  • Wear practical protective footwear
  • Bring a notepad and pen -if you want to make notes
