Repair and Repointing, Deal

Repairs and Restoration

This prominent sea front property in Deal was known to have been built in the Georgian era. It had last been repointed approximately 20 years ago. However, over time the combination of sea, salts, and traffic pollution had wreaked havoc upon the bricks and mortar.
When a Grade II listed building has deteriorated as much as this there is only one option…a painstaking programme of expert repairs.

Work Undertaken

The team carefully removed all damaged bricks. Closer examination revealed that most were Tudor bricks, possibly reused from an earlier building in the locality….?
The fractured corner of the building was rebuilt and the team removed the failed creamy mortar and replaced it with the original colour, a charcoal mortar. The result is not only aesthetically pleasing but has also ensured the survival of this beautiful seafront building for the foreseeable future.
